TDD, AI agents and coding with Kent Beck
- People want DWIM (Do What I Mean) - this isn’t the reality
- Agents are more like capricious genies - willing to cheat, misinterpret, subvert your underlying intentions
- Can be dangerously addictive - quick dopamine hits! But makes us inclined to take shortcuts/not sufficiently validate?
“The leverage of having big thoughts has gone up exponentially.”
Kind of a throwaway line, but the analogy of tension-release in a musical sense with TDD is neat. You think of a case (introducing a new idea), write a test which starts at red (tension), explore that a bit and figure out how to resolve it, and then get the test to green (release) before moving on to the next iteration.
The more I expect to learn, the less I want to commit to decisions upfront - flexible design decisions.
